Trusted teacher: Hey there =) Interested in learning piano? Or improving your songwriting or producing? Maybe you are a complete beginner, or maybe you already know a lot and you’d like to expand your skills with some guidance and accountability. I am happy to share what I know with anyone. All ages & skill levels are welcome! Lessons can include: Learning songs & how to practice effectively Understanding harmony and music theory Playing by ear and listening skills Scales, exercises, and proper technique Chord voicings & harmonic wizardry How to improvise and more =) I like to give my students the tools to teach themselves and I believe learning music can be fun and engaging, even when beginning. I'll ask, 'what do you want to be able to do with the piano?' And then I can help you make a plan for how to get there. I have a jazz background and I love to improvise. I have over 10 years of experience playing and performing music, specializing in jazz and improvised music. I studied in New Zealand, earning a Bachelor of Music specializing in jazz piano and composition. I have been teaching piano for over 8 years now, and have been living here in Berlin for 5 years. Location: I offer lessons from a home music studio at my apartment in Plänterwald, Berlin. I can also travel to your location for an extra charge as long as you're not too far away. Language: I generally speak and teach in English, though I can also speak some German to around B1 level. I have taught violin and viola in the UK for leading national organisations including Opera North, In harmony and Orchestras for All. I have over 10 years of private and school based teaching experience and have taught students from aged 4 to adults. I also ran an outreach music and arts project in the UK delivering music and art workshops in schools and art galleries as well as online, the project was recognised with two national awards from Deutsche Bank and UnLtd. I have led and conducted school string ensembles and set up beginner string programs for Harrogate Music School, Cardiff Young Strings and The Strings Club, Birmingham. My teaching style incorporates aspects of Dalcroze and Kodaly methodology as well as improvisation and collaborative composition. I develop a bespoke approach alongside each student to ensure they are able to get the most out of their lessons and make lessons enjoyable. My lessons focus on developing technique and skills required to play music the student has chosen and I incorporate play and games into lessons to enable the most effective learning. I work mostly in classical, improvisation and new music contexts but can provide lessons in all genres. Lessons are in English. Regular, irregular and one-off lessons are possible. I teach from beginner-advanced.

Do you want to produce your own music but struggle with the technical aspects? I'm a multi-instrumentalist singer, songwriter and performer and I offer applied classes on writing/arranging/producing pieces of music using various instruments of your choice, including your computer. I use a 'learning by creating' method, where we focus and go deeper on certain aspects depending on your needs on your music creation process. I like to use personalised methods that matches your desires, rather than following a certain curriculum. The goal is to help you gain or improve awareness on how a piece of music is written and learn various ways to begin and finalise a writing process. During our practices, I will naturally be transferring my knowledge on certain aspects such as: - Rhythm - Form - Dynamics - Texture - Melody making - Singing - Guitar playing - Placing words into music/making music around words - Improvisation as a compositional tool - Integration of Ableton Live into creative process - Recording - Mixing During the sessions, we'll either write together from scratch or work on your own material and tackle the issues of constructing a piece of music.
