I teach French through an introduction to modern literature and Philosophy. Why so? Because it gives a real sense of how beautiful this language can be, and be a fun way of looking at the sometimes excruciating French grammar. For beginners, there are works that are also perfectly adaptable, and I make sure that the basics of grammar and vocabulary are well understood, with a little homework to keep progress going. It's all about motivation!
