Understanding what you sing is fundamental if you want to consider an operatic career. We are musicians-singers who carry the music but also a text. Each language has its specific saying, the exact pronunciation of vowels, diphthongs and consonants to which is added the exact way of modifying these vowels and diphthongs at the different levels of the tessitura. A good pronunciation is also the vector of a good and healthy vocal emission. Between two excellent singers, a casting director will prefer the one with perfect diction. For 20 years I taught French diction for singers at the G.Verdi Conservatory in Milan. Currently, I teach Italian diction for singers at the Ecole Normale de Musique A. Cortot in Paris.
