I base much more on the understanding of theoretical concepts before starting the examples since by understanding the concept we will be able to manage all types of questions that may arise. Make several demonstrations with the whole class before asking the students to make comparisons on their own. Keep in touch with the students after the sessions to give him help with his homework and do the maximum possible so that he will be able to improve in the way of thinking
