Persian is my mother tongue and as such, I am very committed to teaching my students how to express themselves in all situations and registers of everyday life. I am sensitive to their acquisition of language levels and emphasize the difference between oral communication (conversation, reading) and writing (composition).
While I use English to explain vocabulary and grammar concepts, a good portion of the class is conducted in Persian. I always make sure to confront students with the difficulties of oral comprehension and speaking, and provide support in this demanding task. My goal is to help students gain confidence in their ability to express themselves naturally.
For those interested in Iranian literature and eager to discover or improve their skills in this area, I would like to remind them that I was a radio presenter in Iran for 20 years and specialised in the art of reciting classical and contemporary Persian poetry. I also recorded several poetic pieces. Memorizing beautiful texts is a great way to build a repertoire of choice vocabulary, making the study more rewarding and less tedious than the daily grind of word lists.
In Tehran, I teach Persian language at the Saadi Foundation, an official center for teaching Persian to foreigners. I employ the methods and didactic resources of this institute, and we work with a collection of progressive textbooks written entirely in Persian to facilitate immersion for students.
