English Literature can be one of the most rewarding classes people attend at school, but too often children are not given the right skills to succeed. When I was at school, a tutor helped me understand that English Literature can be more than a prescriptive list of instructions on how to write an essay. Literature can be a great way for students to learn how to think about problems, understand the world around them, and engage with language as a tool rather than a chore. In my Lessons, I like to focus on how to approach literature, essay writing skills, and exam preparation. A large part of this is getting students familiar with the texts and teaching them techniques to make essay writing easier. I rarely ask students to produce an entire essay, instead choosing to focus on the approach to problems and planning. This approach is vital to the study of English at any level, and I aim to give every student the tools to succeed.
