I am a Psychology graduate holding a first-class honors degree. I have been studying Psychology for the past five years; from A-level up to my university graduation. I am passionate about the Renaissance nature of Psychology; all of the different topics and areas you have to learn about to become a Psychologist - but this also makes Psychology a difficult subject to master.
Throughout our lessons, you can guide me through the exact topics you would like to cover. For example, you might be a whizz at social psychology but totally stuck in cognitive or child psychology, and so I can target my lessons to your exact needs. Together we will go through topics within psychology as well as tackling tasks and activities together.
Starting out at university is difficult enough - your work is suddenly anticipated to be of a stratospheric standard while you are still settling in to a new way of life. You're affronted with new depths to your chosen field that you hadn't accounted for - and to make matters worse, everything has to be formatted in a new (to you) style called APA format.
APA formatting is a writing style and standard developed by the American Psychology Association, and many undergraduate psychology courses require all written coursework to be presented in this style; whether it be a scientific report or a long-form essay. Together we will spend these sessions breaking down exactly what the APA format is, and how to ensure all of your written work meets those standards. Throughout our sessions, we will cover how to use APA-style referencing, how to format our psychological reports (both Quantitative and Qualitative) via the use of appropriate headings and sub-headings, how to present statistics, and more.
I am a recent BSc Psychology graduate holding a first-class degree. I achieved this by ensuring my academic writing style and grasp of the APA format was of a high standard. I look forward to sharing what I've learnt with you!
I am a TEFL-qualified English teacher with extensive experience teaching the English Language GCSE online. Throughout our lessons we will tackle exam-style questions together, using tips and tricks I have developed to answer the questions in the most efficient way possible. I will share techniques such as paragraph structures (like PEAR and PEEL), creative writing structuring techniques, and more.
For the most part, my lessons are quite hands-on - we will spend a lot of time dealing with activities and tasks together so you get plenty of real experience of completing the exam - but I am also unafraid of tackling explanations of tricky topics like grammar rules and linguistic devices.
Academic writing is the key to ensuring you receive top grades throughout your studies. Of course, your content needs to be of a superb quality also, but without a high standard of academic writing how can your tutors, teachers, and lecturers award you with the mark you deserve?
You're studying your topic already, you know your field and content like the back of your hand - but do you know how to present it in a suitable format? Together we will break down how to develop excellent essay plans, use topic sentences, and paragraph structures, in addition to recapping topics such as sentence forms and punctuation.
During my time at university I maintained a high standard of work, graduating with a first class honours degree in BSc Psychology. I achieved this by refining my academic writing abilities and attending many classes on developing my academic writing style.
Nothing about applying to university is easy or straight forward. Perhaps the biggest ask is the personal statement: somehow, you are expected to condense your life story and choices down into a single sheet of paper, to advertise yourself as a student to your chosen university/universities. During an already tumultuous period of your life, you are expected to somehow reflect adequately, sell yourself, and justify your life choices all at once in order to pursue your academic dreams.
When I applied to university, I received offers from all 5 of my choices (Manchester Metropolitan University, Glasgow Caledonian University, Salford University, University of Strathclyde, and the University of West Scotland). I'm now looking to help you with your university application process. During our sessions we can look at how to best tell your story in a way that makes sense to a university admissions team, how to structure your personal statement, the type of language that is appropriate to use, and quick and easy proofreading tips.
I look forward to hearing from you!
Poetry is as much a tool of personal expression as it is a creative discipline. While the importance of learning about style, stanzas, and sibilance is undeniably important, so is discovering your own authorial voice. These sessions are designed to support you in discovering what makes your poetry 'yours'. Together we will look at examples of other's poems to dissect how the authors use various techniques and linguistic devices to construct poems before looking at how to apply those devices in ways that help us achieve our desired outcomes. We will also break down what poetry means to us individually, recap different types of and form within poetry, complete writing sprints, and more. You will also have the opportunity to 'workshop' examples of your work with me, if desired.
I first had poetry published in 2016, and have been featured in several magazines and journals in the past few years - throughout 2020/21 I was featured in a number of publications including the prestigious Train River Publishing Quarterly, Creatures Magazine, Felan Zine, Fresh Froot mag, and more. I am also versed in writing prose and lyrics, and I have extensive experience teaching English.
I have experience in teaching the English language to a GCSE (under-16s education) level online, in addition to holding a 120-hour TEFL qualification. I love languages, and I'm keen to share that love with others of all ages. Teaching somebody a second language is providing them with the tools required to communicate with a whole cohort of people they otherwise may not have been able to meet, alongside nurturing their ability to express themselves creatively and enhancing their pleasure of reading.
My lessons tend to be quite hands-on - we look at tackling language activities together such as reading and analyzing passages from texts for meaning and content, writing diary entries and letters, and other such tasks. This doesn't mean that I'm afraid of getting my teeth into explaining and discussing tough language and linguistic concepts also, such as tough grammar rules and linguistic devices!
