I can teach grades 1-5 in music theory. I use both ABRSM and Trinity College London exam boards, tailoring the choice of the exam board to the needs and desires of the student. My lessons are designed to be enjoyed so there is the option to learn to play for fun or you can take exam grades. I like to build repertoire around exam grades in order to broaden the knowledge of other pieces. As well as working privately I also work with the Peterborough Music Hub delivering whole class instrumental lessons as well as small group and 1-1 music lessons at local schools. I aim to strike a balance as much as possible between teaching technical skills and musicality, as of course there cannot be one without the other when learning an instrument. Lessons are a mixture of teaching and demonstrating correct posture, finger patterns or body movements, and teaching and engaging a learner with rhythm, pitch and melody, and then combining them together. I am a firm believer in tackling one aspect at a time in lessons and gradually combining it with another aspect of playing. The most important aspect of learning any instrument is of course the music! Aiming to help a student find music (or if they have ideas they are welcome to bring them along!) that they love and find absorbing - this can be any genre, as long as it has a tune! I have a variety of books of different levels that I can use to help students find styles that are fun and enjoyable for them. There are technical things that need to be worked on in playing any instrument - but of fundamental importance is that the student has a feel for the music they play and a musical idea of what the end goal of any piece is.

My private violin lesson with Ester was absolutely perfect. I had a privilege to hear Ester play her violin and she is so good- it is crazy to think I was able to learn from her. She is also such a good teacher. Full of knowlege and patience- which is, in my opinion, a rare combination. I had no prior musical education and this was my first real music lesson. Ester managed to teach me basic note reading, correct violin holding and even playing my first tunes. Her explainations are very clear and easy to understand. And her approach is very friendly.
