Contemporary Commercial Style Vocal Training. Perfect for: beginners wanting to explore the possibilities of their voice; advanced singers stuck in a rut; classical singers wanting to explore contemporary styles; producers wanting to sing on their own tracks; songwriters who want to be singer songwriters; instrumentalists’ wanting to add singing. 01. A Secure Technique. The foundation of your singing. Control your voice enough to be able to sing in the way you choose. √ Get to the root of your singing weak areas - not always what you think they are. √ Sing through your range with fluid ease. Big jumps become an enjoyable challenge rather than an ‘oh no it’s coming’ moment. √ Control the beginning and ends of your phrases for a finer, more professional result. √ Learn how to recognise anxiety in your voice - how it affects your singing, when it gets triggered, and how to turn it to your advantage. 02. Phrasing. Draw out your musicianship, make decisions around how you choose to use your voice. √ Go to the dark side - why ugly can be as meaningful as pretty. √ Learn how to float around the pulse or sit convincingly in the groove. √ How to use dynamics and vocal quality as your toolkit. √ How and when to use brightness and lift, and mellow warmth to bring contrast and shape. 03. Interpretation. Who you are, and what you have to say. This stuff gets more interesting with age. √ Remembering what each particular song is for, and how we can build on that in our delivery. √ How the construction of the word itself can help put over your meaning. √ Shift between your natural energy levels and more unfamiliar aspects √ When to add and, perhaps more interestingly, when to leave out or take away. Whether you want to sing for fun, be coached through the ABRSM graded singing exams, or brush up your understanding of music through theory lessons, don't hesitate to get in touch. Singing Ethos: My belief is that everyone can learn to sing when taught properly and holistically and can experience the joy of discovering the unique qualities of their individual voice. This is a joy which I share with my students and why I find teaching so rewarding. My experience is predominantly (but not exclusively) with children and I love to watch as their love for their voice grows. What you can expect: I believe it is important to teach with an emphasis on technique and vocal health, so from the first few lessons students learn about the body and the way the voice works. I address this through exercises and breathing techniques as well as songs appropriate to age and stage; (usually based around the appropriate ABRSM Grades). I strive to create a fun, nurturing environment where learning and confidence can be optimised. I currently study with Sophie Grimmer, a highly respected and accomplished vocal teacher based in London who has performed at venues across Europe and London such as ENO. Therefore everything I teach my own students is informed by the world class tuition I am lucky enough to receive, (but of course adjusted so that it is age appropriate). This ensures that the tuition I give is always current and reflects the ever evolving industry standards for vocal tuition. I look forward to hearing from you! (Please don't be put off if below availability doesn't work, as this can be negotiated).

Trusted teacher: I aim to help students develop their voices healthy while nurturing their passion for music. Although not everyone has an excellent singing gift, I believe that everyone can be an excellent performer on their own stage. I will teach students following their aptitude and will not be too harsh on students. However, I will treat every student fairly and will not leave anyone behind. I will set goals for students based on their level and have certain requirements. I hope that students can be happy in the learning process, truly master knowledge, and share music's truth, goodness, and beauty! I am glad that many of my students have achieved good results in examinations, including ABRSM and Trinity College London Grades and Diploma exams, and winning prizes in competitions, including Holmfirth Musical Festival, Newcastle-U-Lyme Festival of Music, Leamington Spa Competitive Festival, Hounslow Festival of Music, Longwell Green & Kingswood Performing Arts Festival, Coulsdon and Purley Festival, Basingstoke Music Festival, and more. I consider myself to be a wide-ranging opera and concert soloist. Passionate about opera, I have sung more than 30 operatic roles and performed for opera companies in Asia and Europe in many major theatres and festivals, including Opera Hong Kong, Musica Viva, Winslow Hall Opera, OperaUpClose, Tête à Tête: The Opera Festival, Passaggio Oper, Opéra de Baugé and more. My operatic roles include Macbeth(Macbeth), Tonio(Pagliacci) and Escamillo(Carmen), among many others. On the concert platform, my past engagements include Haydn's Nelson Mas(Really Big Chorus/Hong Kong Police Choir), J.S. Bach's Magnificat in D Major(Hong Kong Oratorio Society/Village Voices UK), Felix Mendelssohn's Die erste Walpurgisnacht(Hong Kong Oratorio Society), Handel's Messiah(Hong Kong SingFest), Faure's Requiem(Chesterfield Co-operative Choral Society), Brahms's Ein deutsches Requiem(The Guild Consort Choir). I received a postgraduate certificate from Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, Hungary, and a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, where I was awarded the St Clare Barfield Memorial Bowl for Operatic Distinction. Prior to that, I gained my Bachelor of Music from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. I am also an experienced singing teacher for all ages. Besides teaching singing privately for more than 10 years, I was also a music tutor at Parkland Music Limited, Greenery Music & Arts Centre and Canon Music & Arts Centre in Hong Kong. In 2016, I have successfully organized "No Vocalists Allowed" opera workshop, and coached non-vocal major students to sing and perform an opera scenes concert at the New Lecture Theatre at Birmingham Conservatoire. I have also worked as an assistant vocal coach in K. Wah Opera Hong Kong summer school programme 2017, where I trained young performers to participate in Elf the Musical Jr production.
