He made his solo debut in St. David’s Hall, Cardiff performing Mozart’s Concerto For Basset Clarinet, after winning the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama Concerto Competition 2021. In the past year, Isaac has received Masterclasses from world-leading musicians such as Yehuda Gilad, Laura Ruiz Ferreres, Matthew Hunt, Carlos Ferriera and Harri Mäki. His recent festival highlights include performances with Maya Iwabuchi and Robin Green at the Hellensmusic Festival, taking part in Amsterdam and Främnas Masterclasses with Arno Piters and Herman Stefansson respectively, and the Voksenåsen Sommerakademi with Bjorn Nyman and Andreas Sundén. In 2020, Isaac was invited to take part in the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival in Lübeck, which was unfortunately postponed due to the pandemic. Isaac has performed recently as guest principal, sub-principal and bass clarinet with London Mozart Players, Neville Holt Opera, English Symphony Orchestra, London Firebird Orchestra and UK Tours with The Music Agency. He has performed in concerts and masterclasses under the conductors such as Sir Andrew Davis, Maxim Vengerov, Hannu Lintu, Jac van Steen, George Jackson and Leif Segerstam. Isaac graduated first-class honours from RWCMD in 2021 under the tutelage of the previous and current heads of woodwind Nick Carpenter and Rob Plane, respectively. Alongside winning the college Concerto Competition, Isaac also won the RWCMD Woodwind + Chamber Music Prize and auditions for side-by-side schemes with BBC National Orchestra of Wales and Welsh National Opera. Also a passionate arranger, Isaac has recently had his work performed at Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) Young Creatives Projects, Durham University Big Band Charity Events, Dynamica Brass Academy, RWCMD Repertory by Entrepreneurial Performers Company (REPCo) and the Ormonde Ensemble, a wind quintet of which Isaac is a member. Isaac is currently furthering his studies with a Masters in Performance at the Royal College of Music, London, studying with Barnaby Robson, Richard Hosford and Tim Lines. No worries: no experience is required! 😁 I can teach you the basics to produce sounds with your saxophone: position of the embouchure (teeth, tongue, lips and vocal cords' position, an element often forgotten), fingerings, use of diafragma,... After the first two lessons spent on the mouthpiece and neck for the sound production, we will immediately start to play some super easy duos together to practice your capacity of listening, pay attention to the other, ear training as well. I normally use the book of Peter Wastall (titled Learn as you play) as support, but it is not mandatory. There are plenty of good books btw! Are you an intermediate / advanced student?? I am sure you can still improve in all the basics, but on a different level. I'll teach you the importance of the "voicing" (technique named by the american saxophonist and pedagogue Donald Sinta) to improve your sound production and projection as well as the capacity of correcting and improving the intonation. You can learn all about phrasing and music interpretation, from tonal music until contemporary atonal compositions. And still, you can improve your playing together, practicing in duo on different aspects like tuning, balance, interpretation, performance etc. Book a lesson and try!
