About Me
I am an academic research chemist.I have significant experience in teaching, although my usual jive is doing wet chemistry in a laboratory (which I've been doing for the past 15 years). When it comes to chemistry, I'm very enthusiastic and I'm happy to share that enthusiasm with anyone and everyone who wants to learn!
While lectures and classroom learning are often hands-off and can be boring, I'm determined to make chemistry engaging and memorable. Together we'll work through problems and topics at your pace in a way that helps you learn rather than memorise outcomes.
I can offer tutoring and remedial lectures in general chemistry, organic, inorganic, organometallic and polymer chemistry at the university level.
I believe that learning is a two-way street and my students get out as much as they put in from a class. I'm the kind of tutor/professor that expects my students to be ready to learn and I have high expectations that students will be prepared with their own questions.
Education
Bachelor of Science, Honours Chemistry (2007) - specialisation in early transition metal complexesPhD Organometallic Chemistry (2013) - specialisation in f-block actinide chemistry and catalysis
Postdoc in Organometallic Chemistry (2013-Present) - specialisation in catalysis and first row transition metal chemistry
Experience / Qualifications
I've been a guest lecturer at the University of Ottawa and Simon Fraser University in Canada several times in the past 5 years.I have ample experience as a tutor and lecturer in chemistry from my undergraduate and graduate education.
This class is designed as a question and answer tutoring session with one-on-one help from a highly qualified and experienced university level chemistry lecturer.
Topics that can be discussed include (but are not limited to):
- Stoichiometry (converting between molecular weight, grams and mols and balancing chemical equations)
- Chemical bonding (VESPR theory, electronic structure, atomic and molecular orbitals)
- Solutions and mixtures (calculating concentrations and stock solution conversion)
- Acids and bases (calculating pH, pKa and pKb)
- Thermodynamics (enthalpy, entropy, free energy and diagrams)
- Redox chemistry (balancing equations, determining oxidation state change)
This class is not intended to replace your ongoing lectures and coursework in general chemistry, but should be used in addition to help strengthen your understanding of core concepts and prepare for midterm and final examinations.
NB: I am able to teach to small groups (up to 6) in addition to one-on-one sessions. The cost per session may vary depending on additional students.

Private online mathematics lessons - Qualified and experienced teacherI am a qualified and experienced mathematics tutor. Graduated from the Free University of Brussels in 2011, I started my career by teaching remedial courses in different schools in Brussels. I then specialized in individual academic support by following educational training at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. I have been giving private mathematics lessons daily for over ten years.
The students who follow my private lessons benefit from personalized support. The first session is devoted to an in-depth assessment of the student's mathematical knowledge. The objective is to detect its weak points and understand their origin in order to adapt my courses to its needs. I develop a tailor-made remediation program for each of my students aimed at filling each of their gaps. Over the course of the sessions, the student builds a solid foundation for learning and regains self-confidence. At the same time, I help him acquire a work methodology that allows him to gradually become autonomous in his studies.
I have a perfect knowledge of the mathematics program of the College and the High School (from the Sixth to the Terminale). During my formative years, I studied and developed many techniques that make it easier to learn math. The strength of my pedagogical approach lies in my ability to explain in a simple way everything that the student finds complicated. I am passionate about this job because it gives me the opportunity to guide dropout students on the path to success. It is a real pleasure to see them evolve and come to terms with the fantastic world of mathematics.
I provide my private lessons in Limoges (at the student's home) or remotely (online via the internet). My distance learning courses take place on an interactive online whiteboard. This board is specially designed to promote student/teacher interaction on the internet. Thanks to this educational tool, my online courses are as effective as home courses. The student only needs an internet connection and a computer, tablet, or smartphone to take advantage of it.

Relaxed Chats in English with Ryan the Australian/South African - Improve Your Confidence in EnglishThe purpose of our chats/classes is to increase your comfort and confidence with speaking English.
Learning any language takes dedication and persistence, but I will help make it easier for you.
The more you hear English spoken, and the more you try to speak it, the faster you will recognise the sounds, and the more confidence you will gain.
It starts with feeling totally comfortable to try, and to make mistakes.
And that's where I can help.
ABOUT ME
My family tree has its roots in England.
I grew up in Mandela's beautiful South Africa.
I later spent 9 years "Down Under" in Dronning Mary's magnificent Australia.
Then marriage brought me to the lovely Kingdom of Denmark :-)
I'm not a trained English teacher, however:
- I scored 8.5 (Expert) on the IELTS test
- I love to teach and explain
- I'm super-patient and caring
- My accent is easy to understand
Let's have some relaxed and interesting chats to improve your English fluency and pronunciation :-)
I'll be happy to share stories from living all around the world, and hearing about your life.
LGBT friendly.
MY APPROACH
I know what it's like to learn a new language and I know just how scary it can be to open your mouth to try and speak it.
I will provide a safe space, free of criticism or embarrassment, to help you overcome your fears of learning this VITAL world language. The English language can really be your passport to the world :-)
The time it takes to learn English is different for different people, but the statistics show that the more you hear the language and the sooner you start speaking it - even if it's slow and difficult at first - the faster you will learn.
My job is not to explain complex rules and grammar to you. You can learn those online or in a school.
I'm here to get you speaking and listening, so that you train your ears and your mouth in English. And over time, bit by bit, I will also help you to speak more accurately.
Luckily for you, because English is spoken so widely, native English speakers are quite used to hearing English spoken incorrectly. So there's really no need to stress too much about your little errors in grammar or pronunciation.
Let's just get you speaking! :-)
