Classes of Latin and Ancient Greek (grammar, reading, writing and conversation)

I give private classes for any age, both in person and online. At the ESO level I can teach Spanish, Catalan or philosophy. With a better level I can teach Latin, Greek or English. I am currently in my second year of high school, so it is easy for me to get along with the students, I get good grades and I can share study methods with my students.

Contrary to popular belief, learning Latin is not like learning the phone book by heart. I offer you Latin lessons that are unlike any other. There are two types of courses. Here is an analogy to illustrate their respective approaches: If you take the train back and forth every day and don't have time to wait long at the platform, imagine that you only have two options: 1) Learn the schedules by heart. 2) Note that the train arrives every ten minutes and that a train arrives for example at 7:00 a.m. In school pedagogy, in study notebooks and in ordinary courses, it is the first approach which is adopted - in the courses that I offer you, it is the second because it is more economical and faster. My offer is aimed at both students and adults who want to learn the Latin language or deepen their knowledge without time-consuming detours through the insanities of school methods which do not produce results. Learning is easy but unlearning what has become a bad habit is extremely difficult. All the more important it is to learn the right reflexes as early as possible. With my tailor-made teaching you will accelerate your learning in a positive state of mind. I offer individual or group Latin lessons (2 to 5 people). The methods are based on cognitive sciences and in particular historical linguistics. What will not be the subject of the course: learn lists of verbs; learn lists of nouns with their gender; learn words with their translations; memory card game; doing school exercises; follow the program in a notebook; impose French grammar on the Latin language. What matters to me in particular: motivate my student and give him a learning rhythm; encourage creativity; make friends with language; letters and their sounds strengthen your memory by working on the phonological loop; teach construction plans instead of having people learn sentences by heart; explain how the language works to make my student independent as quickly as possible; breaking preconceived ideas such as the gammatical gender would have a link with the biological gender, the accusative would be a direct complement and the dative an indirect complement, the verbs would be irregular, the declension would be random and therefore to be learned with each verb... ; place practice at the center and articulate grammar around practice. Latin is a rather subtle language and for some, almost enigmatic, as the style, vocabulary and syntax can be confusing. However, a few tips are enough to find your way through what seems like a labyrinth to the uninitiated. Don't panic! A practical method exists that will put you at ease when faced with any Latin challenge. The delicate syntax of this language will no longer be a torture for you and you might even find it fun to practice reading and understanding texts that previously seemed hermetic to you. Reading, analyzing, understanding and translating a Latin text is possible. And even - why not? - writing in Latin. As an experienced teacher, I offer you supervision (online or at home) taking into account the learner's level and adopting the most appropriate method for adequate monitoring. Online, the sessions will be recorded, if the listener wishes, and the video will be available for revision. You will have the rigor that this ancient language requires, today more current than ever. You will be prepared for public exams (A levels, GCSE, American SATS, Common Entrance) in French, Spanish, Linguistics (English) and Latin (up to Common Entrance) to a high standard. For those not taking exams, you will be taught via grammar and reading, which assures quick progression. You are welcome to bring your own material to explore with the tutor or your school prep. I do not write essays for students but provide a high degree of research to allow you to shine in your project or chosen module.

You will learn Latin the way it was meant to be learned - through conversation! Medieval scholars and contemporary language researchers alike advocate the use of dialogues and comprehensible input for language acquisition, and it most certainly works! As opposed to the "memorise grammar rules and then babble them in front of the class" approach that was demonstrated by the infamous "Romanēs eunt domus" scene from Monty Python's "The Life of Brian", you will learn to feel the grammar, so that you will be able to use the different cases of Latin without even thinking about it, just like a native speaker! Traupman Conversational Latin for Oral Proficiency I will be the collocutor and I will answer the learner's questions and explain certain oddities solely in Latin (I will use a second language only when the situation calls for it) We will also engage in free-form conversations, discussions of the dialogues, of our life experiences etc so that the learner can apply what they learn to real-life situations and expand their vocabulary

Hello! I am Andrés and I have a degree in Classical Philology. I teach Latin and ancient Greek classes, at all levels, both for school reinforcement and if you want to learn these two languages for pleasure.
