About Me
I am María Mónica, a Colombian singer-songwriter based in London since 2022. I graduated with Honors in Music from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (2015) in Jazz and popular music singing, and recently graduated with First Class Honours from the Master in Music and Development at the School of Oriental and African Studies SOAS, University of London (2022), as a Chevening Scholar granted by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office of the United Kingdom.Along with my musical projects; Montañera (Latin-Alternative), Ságan (Cosmo-natural Pop) and Suricato (New Colombian Music), I have performed more than 300 concerts in countries such as Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, Peru, United States, Spain, France, Italy, United Kingdom and Turkey. I have presented my music in renowned venues such as; The Kennedy Center (Washington D.C.), Buenos Aires Jazz Festival (Argentina), Smithsonian Museum of American History (Washington D.C.), MaMA (Paris), St. Pancras Old Church (London), The Jazz Cafe (London), Festival Estéreo Picnic, SXSW (Austin), Festival Jazz al Parque, Lollapalooza Colombia (failed poster), KEXP (Seattle), Festival Colombia al Parque, Hay Festival (Cartagena) with Fernando Montaño -Solo Dancer of the Royal Ballet of London-, among others. I am currently living in London where I am developing my artistic career, doing a long-distance research stay with the PENSAR Institute of the Universidad Javeriana on singing as a tool for healing and peace building, and preparing my 9th studio album with the support of the Help Musicians Foundation (UK).

The fundamentals I will teach you are based on: posture, breathing, warm-ups, intuitive singing, a repertoire of your choosing (if you have songs written by yourself we can also work with them!), and ear training (as it is a fundamental skill to develop your musicianship). The course emphasizes the connection and awareness of your body as the root of a healthy vocal practice, including breathing and stretching Yoga exercises.
