I offer in-person and online lessons in double bass and electric bass, improvisation (all instruments, from general ideas to specific concepts) and composition, specialising in Western and experimental notated music and creatively using Ableton as a composition tool. I am based in Berlin-Neukölln and Tempelhof or can come to your location.
I am active throughout Europe as a composer, performer and improviser, and also perform regularly in Berlin. As well as being a full-time professional musician, I was a senior lecturer at Leeds Conservatoire, UK, from 2018-2023, developing and delivering courses and curriculums, and have been a private teacher for 15 years. I hold Bachelor and Master's degrees in music, double bass and composition and have studied at schools in Birmingham, Paris and Berlin.
Our lessons are based around the areas you are most interested in developing, and together we come up with a plan to help you move closer to your aims and goals, whether that be learning specific songs or repertoire, being able to improvise basslines or solos, improving technique etc. I am open to all ways of learning at all levels, from beginners to professionals. I additionally offer free optional audio or video feedback between lessons which can serve as useful reminders of ideas, techniques, exercises etc. or just to check in.
Instrumental lessons are relaxed and can include theory, composition and improvisation from the beginning to help develop well-rounded musical skills. Improvisation lessons are suitable for all instruments/vocals and can cover specific musical contexts such as jazz, free improvisation, interpretation of new music (contemporary music) etc.
In my teaching career I have also had the opportunity to develop specialist music projects with children and young adults, using interesting, fun and creative starting points. At the same time my current students range from age 16-50+ and my practise as a professional improviser allows me to be flexible and keep things interesting across all ages, ability levels and genres. Ultimately, it is about developig a personal relationship with the instrument or music, that keeps you engaged and having fun!
English (mother tongue), German and some French as possible teaching languages. Regular, irregular, spontaneous appointments (e.g. individual lessons) are possible.

Ich biete persönlichen und Online-Unterricht in Kontrabass und E-Bass, Improvisation (alle Instrumente, von allgemeinen Ideen bis zu spezifischen Konzepten) und Komposition, spezialisiert auf westeuropäische und experimentelle notierte Musik und kreativer Einsatz von Ableton als Kompositionswerkzeug. Ich bin in Berlin-Neukölln und Tempelhof ansässig oder komme zu dir ins Studio, ins Haus etc.
Ich bin in ganz Europa als Komponist, Performer und Improvisator tätig und trete auch regelmäßig in Berlin auf. Neben meiner Vollzeittätigkeit als professioneller Musiker war ich von 2018 bis 2023 Dozent am Leeds Conservatoire in Großbritannien, wo ich Kurse und Lehrpläne entwickelte und durchführte, und bin seit 15 Jahren als Privatlehrer tätig. Ich habe Bachelor- und Master-Abschlüsse in Musik, Kontrabass und Komposition und habe an Schulen in Birmingham, Paris und Berlin studiert.
Unser Unterricht orientiert sich an den Bereichen, die du am meisten interessierst, und wir erarbeiten gemeinsam einen Plan, der dich hilft, deine Zielen näher zu kommen, sei es das Erlernen bestimmter Songs oder eines Repertoires, die Fähigkeit, Basslinien oder Soli zu improvisieren, die Verbesserung der Technik usw. Manche Menschen lernen gerne mit Hilfe einer Methode oder eines Liederbuchs, andere wollen nach Gehör oder einfach durch praktisches Tun lernen - ich bin offen für alle Arten des Lernens auf allen Ebenen, vom Anfänger bis zum Profi. Zusätzlich biete ich optional kostenloses Audio- oder Video-Feedback zwischen den Unterrichten an, das als nützliche Erinnerung an Ideen, Techniken, Übungen usw. dienen kann oder einfach nur, um den Fortschritt zu überprüfen.
Der Instrumentalunterricht ist entspannt und kann von Anfang an Theorie, Komposition und Improvisation beinhalten, um die Entwicklung umfassender musikalischer Fähigkeiten zu fördern. Improvisationsunterricht ist für alle Instrumente/Gesang geeignet und kann spezifische musikalische Kontexte wie Jazz, freie Improvisation, Interpretation neuer Musik (zeitgenössische Musik) usw. behandeln.
In meiner Laufbahn als Lehrer hatte ich auch die Gelegenheit, spezielle Musikprojekte mit Kindern und jungen Erwachsenen zu entwickeln, die interessante, lustige und kreative Ausgangspunkte haben. Gleichzeitig sind meine derzeitigen Schüler*innen zwischen 16 und 50+ Jahre alt, und meine Praxis als professioneller Improvisator ermöglicht es mir, flexibel zu sein und die Dinge über alle Altersgruppen, Leistungsstufen und Genres hinweg interessant zu halten. Letztendlich geht es darum, eine persönliche Beziehung zu einem Instrument oder zur Musik zu entwickeln, die dich engagiert und mit Spaß bei der Sache hält!

Manchmal sind auch Leihinstrumente erhältlich. Das Studio in Tempelhof ist ein voll professionell ausgestatteter Raum mit schönem Blick auf die Natur. Eltern sind herzlich eingeladen, mit ihren Kindern zum Unterricht zu kommen :)

Rental instruments are sometimes available. The studio in Tempelhof is a fully professionally equipped room with beautiful views of nature. Parents are welcome to stay with their children for lessons :)Manchmal sind auch Leihinstrumente erhältlich.
