Turkish reed flute is an essential instrument of Turkish Classcial Music. It has a deep and dense culture dating from 13. century around. If you want to learn about how to perform it you first need a teacher educated by masters on this field. The kanun is an instrument of the zither family, used historically in various cultures including Arabic, Armenian, Turkish and Greek. I am a professional performer and hold a Bachelor's degree in Musicology from the University of Ioannina (Greece), specializing in the kanun. I am also currently a Master's student at the University of Macedonia (Greece) where I will be researching novel orchestrations of Greek art music of the 1960s, using the kanun. In the lesson we will be focusing on technique, repertoire (mainly Greek and Ottoman), makam theory and elements of taksim improvisation. The level and pace of lessons will completely adapt to the needs and interests of each student.
