Hello, my name is Cristina, I am a native Italian speaker, I have been living here in Friborg for a long time. I have a Master in Letters (Italian and History, UNIFR) and a diploma to teach Italian (foreign language and mother tongue). My courses are aimed at anyone who wants to learn the Italian language. My method is based on the needs of each person, each student being unique, I adapt my methodology according to the level and expectations. So the course will change whether the student takes an Italian course at school or studies self-taught at home. The three main activities (speaking, reading, writing) are adapted to the needs and level of the student. I organize different activities for each course in order to make learning the Italian language interesting and interactive. I lived and worked in Italy for 15 years, I have an advanced Italian language state exam, I speak Italian with a mother tongue level. My first language was English, followed by German and Italian, and the last time I started learning a whole new language, French, was 1 year ago. Today, I also speak French fluently because I studied the language with perseverance and with the already proven language learning methods, practicing it every day. I think the key to learning a language is regular and continuous practice - unfortunately language takes revenge because if you don't use it your knowledge will wear thin. In this course, you will learn a range of linguistic methods and learn the terms used for describing a specific aspect of language or phenomenon (lexis, morphemes, and 'telegraphic stage' to give a few examples). The course requires you to explore your own data using quantitative and qualitative analysis (eg: how frequently are slang phrases used? Are there new auxiliaries being created?). No historical linguistics or literature is involved, but language change or specific traits will be sampled via your own data collection (if this is what is demanded in your course). As many students need to present a "year abroad" dissertation at University level (3rd year in the UK of a Modern Languages or Linguistics Undergraduate course) I can help you to research and structure your year abroad work, both in English (Linguistics) and Romance languages (French, Italian, Spanish). The topics that have arisen from recent discussions with students relate to French Caribbean writing, Italian resistance and reprisals in Rome (Fosse Ardiatine), and Spanish Etica franquista in films (among others).

The course is aimed at a wide range of students with a general interest in Italian. No prior knowledge of Italian is required as the course is for complete beginners. Objectives of the course: To acquire basic language skills and to achieve the equivalent of A1 level. A communicative approach is used. All four skills (speaking, reading, listening and writing) are practiced, with the main emphasis on speaking. The student engage in interactive language activities according to a syllabus based on systematic grammatical progression. The student will also be offered guidance in self-study and set optional homework tasks.
