Utopian Studies extends the notion from Thomas More's Utopia to the emergence of dystopian literature, highlighting the connection between fictionalized literary works and reality. The seminar is designed for students with advanced reading skills as the primary readings are mainly novels. Students are expected to carry out individual research. Further readings (journals, academic papers, etc) will be provided to support the discussion during the class. This class will introduce you to some building blocks for writing effective poetry. This will focus on imaginative and descriptive aspects of poetry, as opposed to technical and academic aspects. It also works for creative writing in general. However, it will specifically focus on some of the more playful and concise elements of poetry, as opposed to the structure and narrative of prose, for example. There are a lot of barriers and negative preconceptions around poetry which I am to dismantle - building confidence and making poetry feel fun, as opposed to fearful! Enthusiasm is more important to me than academic ability. I also welcome pupils who speak English as an additional language and will try my best to accommodate as many access needs as possible. This class is for anyone who wishes to learn German from someone with native level skills. Whether it is to learn the basics as a beginner or to hone essay-writing skills. Can comfortably adapt to any curriculum (IB, A-Level, GCSE). Alternatively, if desired, I can help develop more analytical literary skills and give guidance on how to study German Literature. In both cases, I prioritise verbal dialogue as well as writing tasks, particularly for more advanced levels. I am very flexible when it comes to the structure of lessons/their intensity and feel it is usually best to discuss this on an individual basis.

I am studying Social Anthropology and Politics at the University of Edinburgh. Classics are one of the biggest interests of mine; I started studying Latin and Ancient Greek languages and literature 6 years ago and I have been teaching for three years. I think studying these languages led me to be more aware of who I am as well as understand what is really worth. Latin (Ancient greek too) lessons consist of two different parts: grammar and literature. By studying grammar you are not going to just receive boring notions about the structure of the language, but you are going to deepen processes and rules that form Latin; with this method we are going to discuss about Latin and Greek mindset and then discuss about important themes studied by ancient people in literature. Furthermore, according to your needs and goals, we can exercise on translation of texts.

I tutor GCSE English Language and Literature. I am a 22 year old woman who lives in Manchester and I have a passion both for school and for teaching. I loved my time at school and worked very hard to get pretty much all A*s in my GCSEs and A Levels. While I was able to achieve great results it was not without a lot of hard work. I was diagnosed with Dyslexia very late into doing my GCSEs which was a shock. I felt like it explained the disparity I was experiencing through what I was able to produce verbally in class to what I was able to do in exams. However, I felt like it meant that I was just never going to get the grades that I desired. This was not the case. It simply forced me to learn other methods of learning the syllabus beyond mainstream teaching. When I was able to figure out how to do things in a more out of the box way I loved school and learning even more as it felt like it was more accessible to me. This has given me such an edge with my teaching now as I am able to teach the mainstream way of learning something while also dipping into my extensive tool box of methods that worked also for me. Since leaving school I have taken two teaching assistant positions at primary schools. I have also been apart of a Saturday homework club where I have helped children from the ages of 4-16 do their work. I loved this. I love helping people and love showing them that education can work for everyone. This tutoring group also led me to do more one to one tutoring sessions in GCSE History, RE, English Language and Literature. I am currently doing a Philosophy degree at the University of Manchester. While it is not English it is very literature and essay based so the skills that I have learnt are still used daily in my writing. My lessons are online but I do not find that it hinders the learning at all. In fact I believe it just makes it easier for all involved. (However, if you do live close by I am willing to commute). My typical lessons are very structured but informal, however, I change my lesson style depending on the needs of my students. My lessons have been designed to give you a broad knowledge of the language, and include the four main disciplines of language learning: reading, writing, speaking and listening. I consider it important to keep the balance between practice and theory during the course for that the geography, the culture, the traditions, the civilization of Russia are an integral part of the courses. NB: On average a student can acquire an A1 basic level in Russian in 6 months, this duration can be reduced if they take intensive courses. Face-to-face lessons mainly take place at the teacher's home.

By reading it regularly, progress will be faster. It can also be used in addition to other documents (files printed by school teachers and/or books) and has many advantages: automatic updating, downloadable on tablets and smartphones, simultaneous monitoring of what is writing. For help with writing: The objective is above all to acquire effective tools. The student will thus be able to learn to structure his ideas, argue coherently (and convincingly) and enrich his vocabulary. It is essential for me to have written work from the student between each lesson. For analyzes of oral literary texts: In order to optimize the time available (and to put ourselves in conditions closest to oral exams), we choose together an extract from a work that the student will have previously prepared before the lesson. This would take around 20 minutes at most, and ideally just a little before the meeting time. If necessary, I have the habit of taking a paragraph at random which would serve as a basis for analyzing a passage. For the corrections of end of studies work: so that the meeting with the student is at the most profitable, I ask him to send me his writings before the meeting. Apart from my presence with the student, any course involves a preparation time before and after the lesson, including the work that I correct. My goal is to design an individualized course, so I take the time to write detailed comments on corrected work or tips to ensure maximum success for everyone. For example, an editorial correction can easily be the subject of a detailed commentary of 4 typewritten pages. For adults (FLE): In order to optimally prepare the first ones, I take the initiative to inform myself in advance of their objectives / expectations. Whether to practice speaking in everyday life, the professional world or to practice oral presentations, I prepare either PPT or technical sheets in advance that I send by mail ( after booking on the website). The other alternative is to make a PV of the course that I send (or that I print). Giving importance to keeping a written record on the one hand to better memorize the topics covered, on the other hand to better assimilate the spelling. Of a general nature, a concrete situation that responds to the learner's needs is the starting point. From this situation, I address the essential grammatical points.
