Saxophone Lessons: With a strong background in Jazz and improvised music, I offer saxophone lessons tailored to each student’s needs—whether you’re preparing for ABRSM or Royal College exams (or other equivalent examination boards), exploring jazz improvisation, or just playing for fun. As a performer, I’ve played at major festivals and venues across the UK, USA & Europe such as Glastonbury Festival (UK, SXSW (USA) and Paris Jazz Festival (FR). I am still active as a touring band-leader/artist and I bring that real-world experience into my teaching. Composition Lessons: As a classical composer, my work spans orchestral, chamber, and jazz ensemble writing, with commissions from leading arts organisations and orchestras - recent commissions include the London Symphony Orchestra and BBC Philharmonic. I lived abroad for over 25 years: in Great Britain where I taught FLE, then in Belgium where I worked with European institutions on projects, and finally in Italy for 20 years where I was called upon to teach FLE at the University of Turin and where, at the same time, I directed cultural projects linked to French-speaking literature at a local institution, il Circolo dei Lettori. My FLE teaching is different from others, pragmatic, progressive and tailor-made. Why ? Because before teaching, I had to personally confront learning languages: English, then Spanish, Portuguese and finally Italian. I have thus understood what is useful and what is not for entering another language, what gives the satisfaction of progressing, of beginning to speak, to understand, to write... without approaches that are too often useless, time-consuming and costly for an unsatisfactory result. Carlos is an amazing teacher! I have learned more studying with him in a few months then I have learned in a year with other teachers. He is patient, knowledgeable and organized. We have good conversations and he really knows how to activate the language and give confidence to his students. For more basic students like myself it's very useful that he can speak other languages so well, although we use mostly Spanish in our lessons. He is simply the best! I highly recommend Carlos as a teacher!
