When a students stuggles with something, I create exercises to help master it. Theory should be easy! About Me I am a friendly teacher, who will help you achieve your desired goal for music theory. I have been teaching live for 10 years, and on Skype for 5 years. As long as your internet connection is good, skype can be almost as good as being in the same room. I have studied with many of the leading teachers in Europe and the USA. I started my education at Junior Department of the Royal Academy of Music (London), where I studied with James Sleigh for five years. I was a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, and the National Youth Strings Academy. I the studied my Bachelor of Music at the Royal College of Music (London), where I studied with Andriy Viytovych. I have a Masters of Music from Trinity Laban College of Music and Dance (London), studying under Roger Chase, and a Masters in Fine Art from Gothenburg University (Sweden) with Øvyor Volle (Vertavo Quartet). I also studied in the USA at the Manhattan School of Music, New York, and Chicago College of Performing Arts. I work as a professional viola player across the UK and Scandinavia, with such orchestras as Bergen, Norwegian Radio, Gothenburg Symphony, Norrkoping Symphony, Jonkoping Sinfonietta, Aarhus Symphony, and English National Ballet Philharmonic. I am also a music arranger and transcriber. I can give lessons once or twice a week. Please note that twice a week does allow for fast progression. Lessons can be at my home in Kallhäll, or online via Skype or Zoom. Although I live in Sweden, I only teach in English. Qualifications MFA, MMus, BMus (Hons). Trusted teacher: Welcome to my piano teaching studio! I am a professional pianist offering private piano and theory lessons for students of all levels. As a pianist with over 14 years of teaching experience in Europe and the USA, as well as over 23 years of playing/performing, I enjoy motivating my students with music of their own preferred style and interest, whether that be classical or contemporary. My main goal is to promote a positive experience and love for music-making during the learning process. If the student is interested in a more structured approach, I guide preparation for grades 1-8 of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) piano and music theory exams where my students consistently receive highest marks. I also have successful experience preparing students for conservatory entrance auditions, masterclasses, and competitions in the Europe, the USA, India, and Canada. We have class concerts at Pianos Maene for interested students twice per year. I am happy to provide either a more relaxed or a serious approach to learning piano, we simply need to discuss the personal goals and preferences of each student. My own studies are as follows: I have obtained two postgraduate performance degrees at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp: "Concertsoloist" in Piano Performance and "Chamber Music” (under the guidance of esteemed professor Sergei Edelmann). Prior to this, I received my Bachelor and Masters degrees in Piano Performance/Music from the University of Minnesota - Minneapolis (with Prof. Lydia Artymiw) and Texas Christian University, Fort Worth (with Dr. Tamas Ungar). My experience includes collaboration with many different instrumentalists and singers, performing as a soloist and collaborative member in several orchestras, and receiving top prizes in several competitions. While maintaining my performance and recording career in Belgium at present, I am developing my private music studio in central Antwerp and look forward to meeting new students.

(LIVE or ONLINE!) Piano, improvisation, composition and music theory lessons (Rotterdam)

I had previously played some classical for a few years, but was looking to learn jazz piano and improvisation as well. For this David is ideal, as he studied both as a classical and jazz musician, and has a deep understanding of each. About half the lessons we focus on jazz improvisation. During the lessons I improvise over a few songs, and each session he gives feedback, while adding a new layer of difficulty. We've also worked a lot on rhythm, which has really helped me bridge the gap between classical and jazz. We spent a few lessons on classical pieces as well, to refine technique and musicality. My playing feels much more fluid and musical already, and he's really helpful/knowledgeable with the details. Also, on the weeks where I did have not had much time to practice, we do a more (jazz) theory oriented lesson, which has also helped alot with my improvisation. Overall, I only have positive things to say about the lessons! David is a very easy-going teacher, and from the first lesson I felt very comfortable asking him questions. He's very versatile as well, and easily adapts the lesson according to what suits us best that week.

Great teacher! I started acoustic guitar lessons from zero and I have learned so much with Sergio, he is an excellent teacher, very knowledgeable and patient, he also encourage you to keep practicing to achieve your goals while providing you with very useful material to do it. I really recommend Sergio as a music teacher, he plays a lot of instruments. Excelente profesor, yo empecé clases de guitarra acústica desde cero y he aprendido mucho con Sergio, sabe mucho y es muy paciente, además te anima a seguir practicando para que alcances tus metas y te provee muy buen material para lograrlo. Súper recomiendo a Sergio como profesor de música, sabe tocar muchos instrumentos.

I had my first lesson today and I was immediately struck with the feeling that I am in the presence of a maestro in Piano playing, a professor in teaching and an extremely patient pedagogue. It was like Lydia knew me for years and instantaneously detected my strengths and my weaknesses in my piano playing and practice. I am an adult student and I highly recommend Lydia for all ages and all levels. An exceptional teacher that provides and exceptional lesson experience.
