I began my teaching practice while pursuing a Bachelor of Music Performance at the Royal Irish Academy of Music, Dublin, inheriting students from my father (also a violin teacher) and later teaching the younger students of my violin professor. Following my studies in Ireland, I moved to the United Kingdom, where I obtained a Master of Music Performance from the Royal College of Music, London and an Advanced Postgraduate Diploma from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, both with distinction. During my studies, I taught extensively across the London and Birmingham areas, both in person and online, taking one to one lessons and group ensembles. In my teaching, I follow the ABRSM grade system alongside a vast selection of relevant study books and pieces/sonati/concerti, individually tailored to the needs and requirements of each student, allowing an enjoyable, rewarding and worthwhile musical experience. As I work full time with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, teaching spaces are limited and a certain level of flexibility in scheduling may be required at times due to the changing nature of the orchestra's weekly timetable and touring schedule. I am an experienced and enthusiastic teacher and am adept at all varieties of guitar playing, including, classical, acoustic, electric and bass. Regarding my previous experience in tutoring, I have given 1000's of hours of guitar tuition both privately and in school settings. These experiences have given me a keen sense of how to motivate students and offer them concise and useful advice. I have worked at many excellent institutions in the past, including Streatham and Clapham Girls' School (one of the top private girls schools in the country), Orpington Music Studio, The Royal Arsenal School of Music and Canada Blanch Music Academy. I have found over my experiences of being taught and then eventually teaching that the best method for getting the most out of a student is to listen. If the tutor is acutely aware of where their student needs help and where they are already confident, they can tailor classes carefully to make the best use of the time allowed and to get the maximum potential out of them. This philosophy leads to classes being student-oriented, in that the student leads the tuition.
