If you are interested in Chinese culture, I can also share my knowledge on Chinese history/social networking protocol with you, and many other aspects, depending on your interests. I'm a native Chinese speaker. I would like to share my knowlege with patience to help those who want to learn/improve their Chinese, especially in terms of speaking, reading and writing. I graduated from a top-tier university in China and came to Switzerland one year ago to continue my master study at ETH. I am fluent in English so don't worry if you know very little about Chinese, I will try my best to help you make progress! For speaking, each class revolves around a specific topic. The topic can be either daily situations (e.g. greetings, introduce yourself, hobbies, travel, movies, etc.), or more formal situations (e.g., give a speech, make presentations, interview). Depending on your levels and needs, I can be your speaking partner and help you correct mistakes and speak more native Chinese. And I can summarize all the useful expressions and sentence structure under a specific situation for you. For reading, each class revolves around a short passage. The passage is written by native Chinese and I will guide you through every sentence and every word. The passage is selected based on your language level and I will explain it in detail (meaning, grammar, useful expressions, etc.). For writing, I can show you how to build sentences in Chinese and write a sample passage for you in class. I personally do not celebrate the traditional style of teaching whereby students are forced to discipline themselves in academics just to abide by the rules set by the educators. I would prefer guidance over forcing students to learn. I believe different students have different needs in learning, which requires extra attention of the instructor to listen to their needs and cater to them in order to have improvement in studies. Instead of behaving as a traditional academic tutor, what makes me stand out from most tutors is that I practise tutoring with patience, and teaching 1 to 1 is more preferable for me as I could personally adjust to each student’s level while teaching so growth and improvement could be observed. I believe that everyone is unique and not everyone is supposed to achieve A+ in studies because not all of us are genius in studying. Therefore, improvement should be what we strive for in our children’s point of view. Hello everyone, welcome to Teacher Kong’s Chinese class. Do you want to speak fluent Chinese? Come with me and let’s start learning from daily vocabulary together. International Chinese teaching not only requires teachers to lay out and explain the language itself as the main part, but also to describe and render the modalities, roots and application situations behind the language, that is, to transform the language form into visual content, and then naturally internalize it into psychological memory. For some Chinese students, the biggest difficulty is that there is no equivalent concept of "quantifier" in Chinese in their own language, resulting in a gap in both conceptual and semantic levels. Therefore, when explaining quantifiers, I will clarify the connotation of quantifiers for students and clarify their denotations. For example, when explaining the quantifier "array", in addition to explaining the basic usage, I also created picture situations for the students, imagining being in a flower manor, smelling the rich fragrance of flowers, and then blowing a cool wind. So I feel happy (for a while). As a result, the forms and rules of language are transformed into a flowing picture. Whether it is a quantifier, an idiom or a simple overlap of words, it can be given expanded dynamic meaning, embodying the "beautiful" art of Chinese.
