Trusted teacher: Approach to Teaching – I favor a structured approach. I devise lesson plans in advance of every lesson, catering to the student's specific needs. – Academic lessons tend to be structured around specific sections of the syllabus, or particular topics that students require help with. – I employ a seminar-style format. I flesh out ideas with the aid of quotations, other audio-visual resources, and analytical commentary. I structure my lesson plans with a view to providing gaps, in which students are able to ask questions about the content. I am also happy for students to interrupt the flow of the lesson if a burning question arises. – I use Powerpoint to provide students with a variety of resources and visual stimuli. This will be grounded in the history and culture of Jamaica. Coming from a background in diplomacy, sharing about Jamaica's culture and historical experiences has always been essential for opening the door to a deeper unerstanding. I have an avid interest in other cultures and always take the time to explore wherever I go. Having been to South and Central America, Asia, North America and Europe, I know the unique value of such rich experiences. Whenever I was home-sick while posted abroad, talking about my homeland was the only cure. I will share with you all there is about living in rural Jamaica, from different perspectives of my childhood, teenage years and adult life. One unique bit is that the district's enduring small farms form the centrepiece around which everything revolves. Pelagia is the best teacher I could possibly ask for my 7 year old son. I wanted to find a Greek teacher for him, as he is being raised in the Netherlands (Dutch being his first language) and I am Greek.
