Trusted teacher: Ever wondered about life in Jamaica beyond the lights of Kingston’s allure? This class offers an ethnographic journey of practises and cultures in rural Jamaica, illustrated through photos, songs and videos. Let's explore life in rural Jamaica! Born and raised in a remote rural district/village, I will take you on an authentic journey of first hand experiences- reliving fond childhood memories, the stories my grandmother told me and what a typical day is like. This will be grounded in the history and culture of Jamaica. Coming from a background in diplomacy, sharing about Jamaica's culture and historical experiences has always been essential for opening the door to a deeper unerstanding. I have an avid interest in other cultures and always take the time to explore wherever I go. Having been to South and Central America, Asia, North America and Europe, I know the unique value of such rich experiences. Whenever I was home-sick while posted abroad, talking about my homeland was the only cure. I will share with you all there is about living in rural Jamaica, from different perspectives of my childhood, teenage years and adult life. One unique bit is that the district's enduring small farms form the centrepiece around which everything revolves. Come prepared with a curious mind, and if you want to make notes take your pen and paper or do so on your devices. It is important for me that your are learning, so I encourage you to ask questions. Let's go beyond Kington's enigma!

Hello! I’m Sreelekshmi from the scenic state of Kerala in South India. I’ve been passionate about Bharatanatyam since childhood and have had the privilege of performing on numerous stages across India. Currently, I am learning under the guidance of Smt. Meera Sreenarayanan. Bharatanatyam has not only enhanced my physical strength, stamina, and endurance, but also sharpened my mental focus, discipline, and concentration. The art form’s intricate movements, when practiced with dedication, contribute to one’s overall development. Having recently moved to Vienna, I’m excited to share my knowledge and love for Bharatanatyam through this platform. Bharatanatyam, a classical dance form originating from Tamil Nadu, India, is known for its grace, purity, tenderness, and sculpturesque poses. This vibrant dance form involves postures such as a fixed upper torso, bent legs, and flexed knees, combined with footwork, and a vocabulary of sign language based on gestures of hands, eyes, and face muscles. Here are some key points about my Bharatanatyam classes: Structure of Bharatanatyam Classes: 1. Basic Level (Beginner) - Adavus: Basic steps and movements - Postures: Learning the basic stance (Aramandi) - Hastas: Hand gestures and their meanings - Rhythmic Patterns: Understanding of Talam (rhythm) - Simple Dance Items: Alarippu (an invocatory piece) 2. Intermediate Level - Complex Adavus: More advanced steps - Nritta: Pure dance without emotions - Nritya: Expressive dance with emotions - Jathiswaram: A dance item that combines adavus and rhythmic patterns Duration and Frequency - Classes: Typically held weekly, with each session lasting 1-2 hours. Classes can be tailored according to the needs of the individual. - Practice: Daily practice is encouraged for better proficiency. Requirements - Attire: Traditional dance costume or comfortable pant/leggings with top and a shawl to tie around the waist - Music: Classical Carnatic music accompaniment - Space: A spacious area with a smooth floor Benefits - Physical Fitness: Enhances flexibility, strength, and stamina - Mental Discipline: Improves concentration and memory - Cultural Awareness: Deepens understanding of Indian culture and mythology

This lesson focuses on how travelling and exploring new places can be engaging and educational, encouraging students to develop practical language skills while discussing an exciting, universally appealing theme. This lesson aims to build vocabulary, enhance conversational skills, and foster cultural awareness through a variety of activities. The lesson begins with a warm-up activity where students are asked to share their dream travel destinations. This quick introductory discussion not only generates excitement but also encourages students to express personal interests, setting a conversational tone for the class. Following this, the teacher introduces key travel-related vocabulary, such as "itinerary," "landmarks," "budget," and "accommodation." By matching definitions with examples, students reinforce their understanding of these terms in a travel context, providing a foundation for subsequent activities. Next, students participate in a structured group discussion, where they describe a memorable travel experience or a place they aspire to visit. This exercise allows students to apply their newly acquired vocabulary, narrate experiences, and practice descriptive language. The class then transitions to a collaborative role-play activity: students work in small groups to create a travel itinerary for a destination of their choice. Each group selects activities, accommodation types, and budgets, simulating real-life trip planning and promoting teamwork. To diversify the lesson and incorporate listening skills, an optional component involves listening to a travel blog or vlog, where students identify the speaker’s destination, key activities, and cultural highlights. This element enhances comprehension and further immerses students in authentic language use related to travel. The lesson concludes with a brief reflection, allowing students to share their thoughts on the destinations discussed. By blending vocabulary, discussion, role-play, and listening activities, this lesson provides a holistic approach to language learning, equipping students with the linguistic tools and confidence to discuss travel experiences, and cultivating a broader understanding of diverse cultures.

Singing classes, vocal agility, repertoire and voiceCraft (Schiedam)
Marinella
Madi is very knowledgeable, as both a coach and a singer. She provided precise, in-depth, and careful guidance with anatomical explanations to help me discover and explore my voice. She's super nice too! I always felt open to making mistakes and improving on them to build my confidence. I'm looking forward to continuing with her. Would certainly recommend.
