Jazz Piano Teacher and Composer based in Barcelona: Expert Lessons Available Online.

Piano lessons in Jazz, Classical, or Modern styles; depending on the student's interest, we can mix a bit of everything or delve deep into one style.

Main focus applied to overcome the problem of piano: mastering two-handed rhythm. To achieve this, I teach left-hand grooves and foundations while working on improvisation, harmony, melodies, accompaniments, and everything there is to play with the right hand. I introduce piano techniques such as walking bass, tenths, stride, drop 2, and more.

From my experience, rhythm, "Groove", and the connection with the music in the moment it is being played are the most challenging aspects to learn and integrate. Thus, I give significant emphasis to these topics in my sessions, especially those aimed at playing polyrhythmic instruments such as the piano.

I cover compositional tools, approaching Jazz Standards, accompaniment techniques, improvisation methods for any instrument, Blues tools, methods to strengthen the relationship with the instrument, analysis, and listening skills. I also teach classical piano for those interested, and offer specific training in rhythm and percussion.

I am fully committed to my students.

With over 12 years of experience in music education, both in individual and group settings, I have a good rapport with boys and girls.

Feel free to reach out, my friend! Long live music.

About Me

I offer my lessons with complete sincerity and seriousness. I have good experience in teaching the science and art of music (more than 10 years). I started by giving drum and percussion lessons, and although I still do that, I am currently more focused on the piano and Jazz composition. Within Jazz, I am interested in the languages of Bebop and Modalism. My influences in this field include Evans, Powell, Monk, Parker, Rollins, Shorter, Davis, Coltrane, Hancock, Montgomery, among many, many others. In the realm of classical music, I am passionate about the works of Bach, Scarlatti, Debussy, Chopin, Bartók, among many, many others. But above all, I am a fanatic of Beethoven both musically and personally. Music is infinite from the perspective of a human life.

I aim to progress gradually but work daily, integrating the musical knowledge that transforms the ear (and above all, the brain). I have my own hierarchy of integrating knowledge, built over years of studying and teaching music. I see my work as a sort of guide; a way to show how to do things right, so that my students can eventually do it themselves.

I offer instrument classes (Jazz techniques and classical piano), harmony theory, musical language, and auditory perception. Analysis, improvisation techniques, and body awareness methods are also part of the curriculum. I work through singing. Intensive courses and preparation for entrance exams to higher institutes are available. I also offer specific training in rhythm and percussion.

Lessons are taken to the full advantadge and start very punctually. I offer discounts for students who attend once a week.

Education

Primary School and Highscool in Crandon School, Montevideo, Uruguay.
Bilingual English/Spanish.

University: degree in Civil Engineering, along with Music Composition.

Experience / Qualifications

+13 yr experience giving music lessons. My first instrument was the drumset, so I gave a lot of drum lessons before turning to piano and composing.

David
Clarinet, harmony, musical analysis, musical language (solfeggio), composition, piano and guitar
Young clarinetist and teacher who has just completed the Degree in Higher Education in the specialty of clarinet performance at the Conservatori Superior del Liceu, with Isaac Rodríguez as teacher, and completed the first year of the Degree in Primary Education. In addition, he has received regular classes from Miguel Espejo, and master classes from Giovanni Punzi, Nicolas Baldeyrou, Phillip Berrod, Hedwig Swimberghe, Josep Fuster, Luís Gomes and José Luis Estellés. He has been part of the Ataúlfo Argenta Youth Symphony Orchestra for 7 years, as well as participating in concerts in some of the great theaters on the national scene, such as the Gran Teatre del Liceu, L'Auditori de Barcelona or the Euskalduna Palace, alongside artists of renowned prestige, such as Pacho Flores, Joyce DiDonato or Jordi Savall, and performed symphonic works under the baton of Hugo Carrio, Borja Quintas, Manel Valdivieso, Jhoanna Sierralta, José R. Pascual-Vilaplana or Lara Diloy. Furthermore, currently (2024), he is working as the sole author in composing the soundtrack for a feature film, as well as creating music through more personal projects. In the pedagogical field, I have been teaching clarinet and musical language classes for 8 years. My specialty is the clarinet, but I offer lessons in harmony, composition, musical analysis, musical language (solfeggio), piano and guitar. In these years I have learned with students of all ages, from the youngest years to older adults, both in private classes and in music schools, and the result for everyone (including me) has been enjoyment and learning. The most important thing, I think, to be able to learn without dying in the attempt, is that there is a great understanding, and that is why I love that they ask me questions and everything is always clear, since music is not an easy discipline, but it deserves the grief. And it is especially worth it when you understand what is happening to you while you learn and fall and learn again (both in music and in your emotions when practicing an artistic discipline live). It will be a pleasure to continue meeting new students!

Music classes, music theory, harmony, composition, audio-perception
Classes are personalized and work is done based on the needs and interests of the student. Topics covered include: music theory, harmony, composition, audio perception, counterpoint, etc. When you contact me, I carry out a short questionnaire about the student's needs and based on that, a study plan is created aimed at, as I mentioned before, the needs of the student. If you are interested, do not hesitate to contact me.

Learn Guitar (Pop, Jazz, Funk) and music in general :)
In this class, we will be exploring music by learning your favorite songs from any genre you enjoy. I will personalize the lessons to your needs and make sure we cover all the fundamentals that will set you on the right track! I will teach you how to: - learn songs by ear, (pop, jazz r&b, funk, fusion, hip-hop, and whatever you like honestly) - improvise, - compose, - understand music theory (harmony, rhythm, scales, progressions, sight-reading etc.) - produce and sound design in Ableton. About me: Education: I started playing music at 7 years old, went through 12 years of music school, and then moved to Amsterdam and spent 4 years learning jazz guitar at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. I frequently play with various bands ranging from Pop and Funk to Jazz Fusion and even Techno. Teaching style: I’m open-minded and straightforward, and I focus on giving my students the tools and basics they need to learn and explore on their own.

Simon
Philadelphia/Online Study Piano With Concert Pianist and Yale Graduate
I am a concert pianist currently living in Philadelphia! I am proud to have more than 20 awards from international piano competitions. If you want to read my artistic bio and read about the awards, and hear me play, please check my website. I am originally from Russia, and for the last two years I have lived in Europe. I’m back in the states in Summer 2024. Here is my story: I started out as a jazz pianist but began dedicating myself to classical music around the age of 14. Two years later I was accepted to the prestigious Central Music School at the Moscow Conservatory. I lived in Russia until the age of 18, and even back then I had major success in international piano competitions. I moved to the US to study with a Van Cliburn Gold medalist under a full scholarship at Park University. I later got my Master’s in piano performance at Yale University. While in the US, I played all over the country and won close to ten international piano competitions. During the past two years I have lived in Germany, where I tried to absorb as much experience as possible about the German piano tradition. I am a U.S. green card holder now. My strategy is to teach you to practice as efficiently as possible. Most people are wasting their time practicing the instrument, then get frustrated and eventually abandon it. I will show you how to make your practicing meaningful. The goal is to make it easier and more enjoyable, not harder. I would describe my approach as hands-on, but I am willing to give students as much freedom as they choose. I often ask my students to send me a video recording of their performance so that we can track progress and discuss our goals and objectives together. I send a detailed lesson summary and practice instructions at the end of every lesson. I try to be polite but straightforward. My job is to encourage you but also be clear about what is getting in your way. I am a perfectionist and encourage my students to push the bar as high as is possible at the moment. Although I have experience as a jazz pianist, my formal training is as a classical pianist and I prefer to offer only classical music lessons, yet the repertoire can range from early baroque to the most recent contemporary. Wishing you my musical best, Simon

The lessons would take place at my home in Mol or via webcam. If necessary, we can always agree on something else.
